Zambia held Rwanda to a goalless draw on Saturday to qualify for the African Cup of Nations next January.
In a group where Zambia and Rwanda quickly fell out of contention for a World Cup spot, only qualification for the African tournament in Angola was at stake in the match.
Zambia secured third place with five points from six qualifying matches, three clear of last-place Rwanda.
Algeria and Egypt were respectively in first and second place before their heated showdown in Cairo later on Saturday.
