Zagreb coach axed after Lyon thrashing
Dinamo Zagreb sacked coach Krunoslav Jurcic immediately after their Champions League humbling by Lyon.
The Croatian side were thrashed 7-1 on home soil as Les Gones stormed into the knockout stages.
Dinamo top their domestic league, having taken 42 points from 17 games as they chase their seventh straight title, but the manner of the Lyon defeat proved too much for the club's hierarchy.
A statement on the club's website, www.gnkdinamo.hr said: "Immediately after the sixth game in the Champions League against Lyon, representatives of the executive and supervisory boards met and delivered a unanimous vote of no confidence in Dinamo coach Krunoslav Jurcic."
Dinamo appointed Jurcic for a second spell in May but will now search for his successor during the winter break.
Club vice-president Zdravko Mamic told www.uefa.com: "It was a very difficult time for our club during this match and this was definitely not the way we wanted to end the season in the Champions League.
"The club's executive board asked for an urgent meeting after the match and unanimously it was decided that the club would terminate the contract with coach Krunoslav Jurcic.
"I really didn't imagine before the match that we would end it with a coaching change."
