American defender DeAndre Yedlin made his Tottenham debut in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.

The 21-year-old, acquired from Seattle and Major League Soccer in January, replaced Vlad Chiriches in the 79th minute.

''Obviously, it's unbelievable to make my debut here. It's something I've looked forward to for a while now,'' he said in a video interview posted on Tottenham's website. ''But the circumstances just weren't the best. It's a disappointing loss of the three points.''

Spurs fell into seventh place with the defeat.

''That's the only thing going through my head right now, is the loss,'' Yedlin said. ''The debut's great, but the loss is kind of overshadowing that right now. So It's disappointing, but we can't hang our heads.''

Yedlin, a member of last year's U.S. World Cup team, was pleased with the applause from fans at White Hart Lane when he entered the game.

''It was great to walk out - or run out to,'' he said. ''Unbelievable. I never thought I'd get that kind of support coming over here, so it was really great to see and hear.''
