Midfielder Eddie Lewis, who represented the United States at two World Cups and spent eight seasons playing in England, will retire after this season.
The 36-year-old Lewis made the announcement Thursday.
Lewis joined Major League Soccer in 1996 and played four seasons for the San Jose Clash. He made the MLS Best XI in 1999, then went to England in 2000.
Lewis played for Fulham, Preston North End, Leeds United and Derby County until 2008, when he returned to MLS with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Lewis scored 23 goals in 236 games in England, mostly for Preston North End.
Lewis also scored 10 goals in 82 games for the United States from 1996-2008, and played in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
