Ruud Gullit's Russian club Terek Grozny have questioned his partying lifestyle, and issued the coach a fiery ultimatum: Win Tuesday's game or lose your job.
A long and scathing statement on the website of the club in the Chechen capital says its president, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, is "extremely dissatisfied" with Gullit's 12-game tenure, with the club languishing in 14th place out of 16 teams in the Premier League.
Kadyrov will fire Gullit unless he wins Tuesday's road match against Amkar Perm, which is one place above Terek, the statement said.
Terek as a team "has never looked so hopeless", and Gullit is distracted by "bars and discos", the statement said.
"The actions of Gullit over these six months show that he hasn't got a grasp on the players or the lineup. The side has no form of play, and there is no recognizable style," the statement said.
"Kadyrov is extremely dissatisfied with both the team's league position and the lack of endeavor in the head coach to put all his energy into normalizing the situation."
After a two-week break in the league program for Euro 2012 qualifiers earlier this month, Gullit arrived "two days after the rest of the team, and then goes with the players to a night club", the team complained.
Contrary to claims by Gullit, he had ample opportunity to sign any players he saw fit to bolster the team, with money no object, the statement said.
Terek also protested complaints it said Gullit made about the quality of the training infrastructure at the club, citing its newly-built Akhmad Kadyrov Stadium, named after Kadyrov's father. The stadium hosted global stars in an exhibition match last month.
"What absence of infrastructure can Gullit be talking about when even the stars of world football - Maradona, Cafu, Dida, (Steve) McManaman, (Luis) Figo and others - marveled at the stadium?," the statement said.
The 48-year-old Gullit, a former World Player of the Year winner, joined Terek to loud fanfare in January on an 18-month contract. It was a sign of both the Chechen's capital renewal after heavy damage in two separatist wars, and of Russian officials' desire to boost the much-maligned image of the domestic game in advance of Russia hosting the World Cup in 2018.
Kadyrov, who wields control over every aspect of life in the province, originally set Gullit the task of a top-eight finish, which would guarantee a playoff spot and a chance to enter European competition. Terek has 12 points in the first 12 games of the season, with three wins and six losses.
