Williams signs Swansea extension
Williams, 26, had two years remaining on his existing deal but Brendan Rodgers had been keen to tie the Wales international to a long-term deal. Williams follows the likes of captain Garry Monk. Neil Taylor, Joe Allen, Angel Rangel and Andrea Orlandi in penning new deals at the Liberty Stadium. Williams told the club's official website: "It was one of the easiest contract negotiations I have had in my career. Myself and the club knew what we wanted and the talks were really relaxed. "I had two years left, but this really allows me to focus on my football here and do as much as I can for the club." Williams moved to south Wales from Stockport in the summer of 2008 and was part of the squad that secured the League One title. He has since become a key figure in the Swans defence, and had attracted attention from fellow Premier League newboys QPR. But Williams had made it clear he wished to stay with Swansea and he is eagerly awaiting Monday night's visit to Manchester City. He said: "When I arrived the club were playing a style in which I flourish, and it has continued to this day. "We deserve to be in the Premier League because of the way we play. "But we have to prove ourselves in the Premier League and stand up to some massive clubs. "The manager has been backed in his recruitment of players, and this is such an exciting time for the players, staff, supporters, club and city. "For me, it's great knowing that I am a part of all this."
