Wigan chairman Dave Whelan revealed on Tuesday that the club were in talks with Celtic regarding a deal for the former Aston Villa man. An offer has now been accepted and Maloney will undergo a medical and discuss personal terms ahead of finalising a return to the English Premier League. Maloney spent 18 months at Villa and made 30 appearances in the Premier League before returning to Celtic in 2008. He has previously admitted it was a mistake to join Villa, but Whelan is confident the 28-year-old is ready to make an impact at the DW Stadium. "The lad is interested in coming to play in the Premier League, that's for sure," said Whelan. "Roberto is a big fan of Scottish football lads. He knows they've got a big heart and he knows they fight. "And, once they adjust to the pace of the Premier League, we've had some very good lads from Scotland. "Roberto is an excellent judge of football and footballers. "If Roberto says to me that he thinks this lad can make it, I am 99 per cent sure that the lad can make it." The Latics boosted their wide options on Tuesday by bringing in Spanish winger Albert Crusat from Almeria for an undisclosed fee.
