West Ham defender James Tomkins fined for assaulting a police officer

SOUTHEND, England (AP) West Ham defender James Tomkins has been ordered to pay more than $12,000 for assaulting a police officer.
Tomkins pleaded guilty in court on Monday to assaulting the officer, being drunk and disorderly in a public place and obstructing a constable outside a nightclub in Essex, east of London last December.
At Southend Magistrates' Court in Essex, Tomkins was fined 3,500 pounds ($5,700) for the assault, ordered to pay 3,785 ($6,100) court costs, 200 pounds ($325) compensation to the police officer and a 120 pound ($195) victim surcharge.
