Welbeck seals Cats loan move
Welbeck underwent a medical on Wearside earlier on Thursday and has now been confirmed as Sunderland's eighth signing of the summer. The 19-year-old has been allowed out on loan by United to build up his experience in the Premier League after making just eight top-flight appearances for the club. He has featured a total of 22 times for the Red Devils, scoring five goals, and also spent a spell on loan at Preston last season. The England Under 21 international is likely to go straight into Steve Bruce's squad for Saturday's season opener at home to Birmingham City. Bruce had lined up a deal for Welbeck even before he agreed to sell Trinidad & Tobago international Kenwyne Jones to Stoke City. Welbeck will now compete with Darren Bent, former United team-mate Fraizer Campbell and Martyn Waghorn for a place in the Sunderland attack.
