The Latics remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League standings and have gone nine games since they tasted their solitary top flight success of the season so far. They were, however, within seconds of picking up a second victory against Rovers on Saturday, with Yakubu converting a 98th-minute penalty to snatch a point for the visitors in a 3-3 draw. While Wigan were left feeling aggrieved at the end of that contest, with a number of refereeing decisions having gone against them, Gomez feels there are plenty of positives Roberto Martinez's side can take into their next outing. "We controlled the game, we played very well, and we have been undone by a late goal," Gomez told the Wigan Evening Post. "Of course it's disappointing, but we have to keep working even harder to make sure next time it doesn't go against us. "If we can play like that every week, we will start to move up the table, I'm sure." Gomez was named in the Latics' starting XI against Rovers for the first since 24th September and repaid the faith of his manager with Wigan's opening goal. He would, however, have happily swapped his strike for three points and a better showing from the officials - with their failure to pick up on a controversial corner routine that led to Blackburn's second goal particularly difficult to stomach. "I was happy with the goal, of course, but not the result," added Gomez. "We're not far away from being where we want to be, although we're not happy with the three goals we conceded. "Their first one was soft, their third one was a penalty and their second one - well that was just incredible. It was a poor decision by the referee, but it's not the first time that's been the case this season. "It's clear we can't afford to rely on referees this season. All we can do is keep playing well and do it all ourselves."
