Warsaw police say they have detained about 120 Lazio fans after they attacked police vans with stones and bottles ahead of the team's Europa League match against Legia Warsaw.
Police spokesman Andrzej Browarek said Thursday that the detained fans were taken into custody for identification and questioning. He said they were all speaking Italian and wearing Lazio colors. The police vans that were attacked had been deployed in Warsaw's main Marszalkowska street to ensure security before and after the game.
The detained Italians ''may not see the match,'' Browarek said.
Poland has a problem with football hooligans and police often step up their presence for big games.
