Wambach pleads not guilty to DUII, admits to trying cocaine in the past


Abby Wambach pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) in Portland, Oregon.
The retired USWNT star's attorney appeared at Multnomah County Courthouse to enter the plea on her behalf.
The documents said Wambach has no prior arrest record. In the documents, officers wrote that she first used marijuana at age 24 and her last use was at 25. It also states: "The defendant tried cocaine at age 25."
At that time, she was a member of the U.S. women's national team.

Wambach, who is now 35, is scheduled to speak Tuesday night at the University of Kentucky.
Her attorney, Ben Eder, had no comment following the plea. The next court date is April 26.
Wambach was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence.
After the incident, Wambach posted on Facebook to take responsibility for her actions and apologize to friends, family and fans.
Wambach is the all-time leading scorer, men or women, in international soccer. She retired in December, ending a career that saw her play in four World Cups, winning one. She also won two Olympic gold medals.
