Monterrey coach Victor Manuel Vucetich says he has been offered the job of coaching Mexico's national team.
He would replace Javier Aguirre, who resigned shortly after Mexico was ousted from the World Cup by Argentina in the round of 16.
Vucetich is 55 and has been one of Mexico's most successful club coaches.
Vucetich said late Tuesday that he had received the offer from Mexico Football Federation officials during talks in their Mexico City office. He did not give many details about the discussions. Decio de Maria, the secretary general of the federation, has said Aguirre's successor would be named after a meeting of Mexico's first-division clubs on Oct. 18.
