Vokes hoping to impress Wolves

The Wales international has been a revelation since joining the Championship outfit on loan last month, notching twice in five appearances. The 22-year-old initially joined the Clarets having struggled to make an impression on the first team back at Molineux and he told skysports.com that it is always difficult for a striker to impose on a match when used as a late substitute. "Everyone wants to be starting games, but obviously when you are on the bench you have to come on and prove yourself in the space of maybe just 10-15 minutes," he said. "That is never easy, but that is the challenge in front of you and if you don't impress then you might not even make the bench next week. "I've been mainly on the bench this season and despite coming on in games it does become frustrating and there comes a point where you need to get out and play some games. "This was the perfect opportunity for me to get some regular football, especially with the Christmas period coming round and all the games that come with it. "Two months is a good amount of time for me to get my head down and get some games in, so hopefully after that I can get a chance back at Wolves and then it is down to me to take it." Vokes' arrival coincided with injury to fellow striker Charlie Austin, which has created a front partnership with in-form Jay Rodriguez and Vokes is enjoying his role alongside the highly-rated forward. "He is obviously a very good player and has been scoring a lot of goals this year, so hopefully we can continue to work well together and help push this club up the table," he said. "There are a lot of good players here, from front to back, so it hasn't surprised me to see us climb the table in recent weeks and hopefully we can continue to improve for the rest of my time here."
