MADRID -- Villarreal says goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will likely be sidelined for seven months.
The club says Asenjo, who sustained the injury during his team's 1-0 defeat Wednesday by Atletico Madrid, will require surgery.
Shortly after Fernando Torres beat two defenders and Asenjo to score the only goal, the 25-year-old goalkeeper's knee buckled and he had to be substituted.

In a statement Thursday the club wished Asenjo ''a speedy and successful recovery.''
