Aston Villa dropped one place to 16th in the Premier League despite drawing 0-0 with Stoke on Saturday to stay unbeaten after three games.
In a match of few chances at Villa Park, the most contentious moment came with time almost up when Stoke defender Ryan Shotton was sent off for a second bookable offence even though it appeared he made no contact on Villa substitute Fabian Delph.
Villa is only two points above the relegation zone, while Stoke stayed ninth with 23 points, three from fifth place and the Europa League spot.
