Vidic to miss Serbia Euro qualifiers

Nemanja Vidic will probably miss Serbia's European Championship qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Estonia later this month with a hamstring injury.

Serbia's football association said Sunday the Manchester United defender has asked to be excused from preparations for the two matches and will rejoin the national team only when he ''fully recuperates.''

Serbia coach Vladimir Petrovic said he would not call up another player to replace his captain.

Serbia, which is second to last in Group C with four points from four games, trailing leader Italy by six points, plays Northern Ireland in Belgrade on March 25 and Estonia in Tallinn four days later.

The match in Belgrade will be played in an empty stadium because of a FIFA ban.
