Vidic eyes Rooney World Cup clash
Defender Nemanja Vidic is hoping Serbia get the chance to face
England and Wayne Rooney at this summer's World Cup finals.
The Three Lions are favourites to come through Group C after
being pitted against Algeria, Slovenia and USA.
If England do make it to the last 16 they will meet one of
the teams from Group D, where Serbia do battle with Germany, Ghana
and Australia.
Vidic is confident Serbia can make an impact in South Africa
after an impressive qualifying campaign and has warned potential
opponents that they are not to be underestimated.
The centre-back regards Manchester United team-mate Rooney as
the best player in his position on the planet but would love to
line up against him.
"Wayne is definitely the best striker in the world," Vidic
said in the Daily Mirror.
"And sharing the same dressing room, it would be fun to play
against him.
"One of us would have to lose and he's a great player, who
would be hard to keep quiet.
"But that's the challenge. That's why you play football.
"I mentioned to him that if we got through we have a chance
to meet England. He said 'Serbia? Who plays for them?'
"He was joking. Wayne knows we're doing well and not an easy
team."
