BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) The Vatican has suspended an agreement with the South American football confederation because of the corruption allegations against local officials.

CONMEBOL was going to donate $10,000 to a social program created by Pope Francis every time a goal was scored in this month's Copa America, but officials in charge of the program said Thursday that they will not accept any money until the conclusion of the investigations involving people linked to the confederation.

Former CONMEBOL presidents Nicolas Leoz and Eugenio Figueredo are among those being probed by U.S. authorities.

The South American tournament began on Thursday.
