Van Buyten eyes Bayern stay

Bayern Munich defender Daniel van Buyten has stated he has no plans to hang up his boots just yet, and wants to extend his stay at the Bundesliga leaders beyond June.

The veteran centre-half's current deal ends in this summer and, at the ripe old age of 35, Van Buyten feels he still has something to offer at the highest level.

"Will I extend in June? I hope so. My wish is to finish my career at the club," he told L'Equipe.

"Every day I am fighting against 20 or 25-year-old guys and I have to be playing at their level."

One reason that the former Manchester City defender is keen to carry on is to avenge his side's penalty shoot-out defeat to Chelsea in last season's Champions League final.

Van Buyten has revealed how that disappointment spurs him and his team-mates on, with Bayern taking a 3-1 lead into the second leg of their last-16 tie with Arsenal on Wednesday night.

"It is difficult to forget. Chelsea stole that trophy, and we will get it back in England," he added.

"But first we have to eliminate Arsenal."
