Valencia striker Roberto Soldado will miss the start of the Spanish league season due to a leg injury.

Soldado tore a muscle in his right leg and will be sidelined for two to three weeks, Valencia said on Tuesday.

Valencia, which opens against Malaga on Saturday, will be hopeful Soldado can recover in time for its first Champions League match on Sept. 14 or 15.

Soldado, who has made two appearances for Spain, joined from Getafe during the summer to replace Barcelona-bound David Villa. He scored 16 goals last season.
