USA striker Altidore considering January exit from Sunderland
Jozy Altidore admits he may have to consider leaving Sunderland in January if his situation fails to improve.
The United States international, who has previously spent time on loan at Hull City, returned to English football in the summer of 2013.
A prolific strike rate in Holland with AZ Alkmaar convinced Sunderland that he was deserving of another shot at the Premier League.
Altidore has, however, managed just one league goal in 33 appearances â to go with the one he managed in 28 outings for Hull.
His struggles have led limited game time, with Gus Poyet now favouring other striking options.
The 24-year-old striker acknowledges that something needs to be done in order to turn his fortunes around and keep him in Jurgen Klinsmann's USA plans, and that may mean looking for a move in the winter transfer window.
Altidore said ahead of a friendly date against Ecuador: "I thought I've done everything I could this season to come in as fit as possible with the injury (suffered at the World Cup) and try to make an impact when I've played.
"But, like I said, this four years I want to be part of the national team.
"Jurgen makes his message very clear, nobody is different, so if it doesn't turn around, then in January I'll be looking to start elsewhere and make sure that I'm in his plans."
