US soccer captain Bocanegra makes 100th appearance

American captain Carlos Bocanegra has made his 100th appearance for the U.S. soccer team.

The 32-year-old central defender from California started in Tuesday night's exhibition game against Slovenia in Ljubljana, becoming the 12th American member of the century club.

Bocanegra joined Cobi Jones (164), Landon Donovan (138), Jeff Agoos (134), Marcelo Balboa (127), Claudio Reyna (112), Paul Caligiuri (110), Eric Wynalda (106), Kasey Keller (102), Earnie Stewart (101), Tony Meola (100) and Joe-Max Moore (100) as the American members of the century club.

Agoos, Balboa, Caligiuri and Bocanegra are the only defenders.

Bocanegra made his debut at South Korea in December 2001.
