BERN, Switzerland --
The United States has blocked Nicaragua's attempt to extradite FIFA bribery case suspect Julio Rocha to his home country.
Switzerland's justice ministry says the U.S. Justice Department ''has asked that the (ministry) gives priority to U.S. request for Rocha's extradition.''
Swiss officials should decide within two weeks on granting the request, which Rocha can appeal.
Rocha, a FIFA staffer, was arrested in a May 27 dawn raid on a luxury hotel in Zurich.
U.S. prosecutors indicted Rocha and 13 other football and marketing officials on bribery, fraud and racketeering charges. Four others had guilty pleas unsealed.
Rocha is among six detainees in Zurich-area prisons who are fighting extradition to the U.S.
The former Nicaragua football federation president allegedly took bribes from marketing agencies which held tournament broadcasting rights.
