United States to host rival Mexico as part of Gold Cup preparations
CHICAGO --
The United States men's national team will host Mexico in an exhibition at San Antonio's Alamodome on April 15 as part of preparations for this summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The game, announced Wednesday, will be the first in San Antonio for the U.S. men. It is not on a FIFA fixture date, meaning most Europe-based players won't be available.
The Americans open their 2015 schedule on Jan. 28 at Chile, then host Panama on Feb. 8 at Carson, California. The Americans also play at Denmark on March 27 and at Switzerland four days later.
After the game against Mexico, the Americans are at the Netherlands on June 5 and at Germany five days later. They open the defense of their Gold Cup title on July 7 at Frisco, Texas, and play additional first-round games at Foxborough, Massachusetts, on July 10 and at Kansas City, Kansas, on July 13.
Qualifying for the 2018 World Cup starts with a pair of matches from Nov. 7-17.
The U.S. Soccer Federation has not confirmed a pair of home exhibitions that Fox said in a graphic last weekend it planned to televise: vs. Australia on July 3 and Ghana on Sept. 4.
