Italian bank UniCredit has confirmed it is in talks to sell part of its stake in Serie A club Roma.

A spokesperson told Italian news agency ANSA on Sunday night that ''there are currently discussions ongoing with an investor interested in taking a share of the stake the institute has in the company that controls Roma.''

UniCredit owns approximately 30 percent of Roma, with the remainder in the hands of U.S. investors.

There have been reports recently that a group of Chinese investors are interested in buying into the club.

In an earlier statement, Roma President James Pallotta said ''there have not been ongoing negotiations between us and any potential Chinese investors. We are continually dismayed by UniCredit's foolish and embarrassing promotion of false information in the media.''
