The Court of Arbitration for Sport has ordered a ?1.7 million ($2.4 million) reduction in the compensation that Sevilla and Morgan de Sanctis must pay after the goalkeeper broke his contract with Udinese in 2007.

A CAS panel overturned a FIFA ruling that Udinese should receive nearly ?4 million for the Italy international, and ordered De Sanctis and his Spanish former club to instead pay ?2,250,055.

De Sanctis had spent eight years at Udinese, making his national team debut for Italy, then cited Article 17 of FIFA's transfer rules and terminated his contract with three years left.

FIFA ruled last year on Udinese's claim, which was appealed to CAS by all parties.
