Two Colombian fans stabbed, robbed in World Cup city of Cuiaba
RIO DE JANEIRO --
Two Colombian soccer fans attending the World Cup have been stabbed while being robbed in the western city of Cuiaba.
A spokesman for the Mato Grosso state public security department says the 24- and 28-year-old victims were walking along a downtown thoroughfare around 1:30 am when they were assaulted by two men on a motorcycle. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in accordance with government policy.
The two were treated for stab wounds in the back and stomach but the injuries weren't life-threatening.
The thieves stole the Colombians' passports, a cellular phone and about $150 in cash.
More than 20,000 Colombians descended on Cuiaba in recent days to watch their national team defeat Japan 4-1 to finish first in Group C play.
