TV3 to sublicense Euro 2016 from RTÉ

Published Feb. 21, 2016 7:00 p.m. ET

Irish state broadcaster RTÉ will sublicense 22 games from this summer's Uefa European Championship in France to TV3.

Under the agreement, RTÉ will broadcast the three group-stage matches of the Irish national team and retain the pick of the non-Ireland games throughout the tournament and the final, with TV3 left to choose 22 games from the rest of the championship.

The deal represents another coup for TV3, which last year begun a similar sharing arrangement with RTÉ for the Uefa Champions League, and will take over the exclusive rights for the Six Nations rugby tournament in 2018, after attracting record numbers for the coverage of last year's Rugby World Cup.

The Irish national team qualified for Euro 2016 after a 3-1 aggregate play-off victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
