Roma star Francesco Totti has avoided a ban for a provocative gesture during the Eternal City derby with Lazio - and has been fined 20,000 euros.

The Italy forward was fined for a thumbs down gesture in front of Lazio fans as Roma recorded a 2-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening.

Lazio are 16th in Serie A, just three points above the relegation zone and Totti's gesture was thought to be suggesting they were heading for the drop.

Totti was substituted at half-time during the win, which saw the Giallorossi regain their place at the top of Serie A.

Lazio duo Mauro Zarate and Roberto Baronio were fined 8,000 euros and 5,000 euros, respectively, for their behaviour at the end of the derby.
