Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has undergone heart surgery, a procedure preventing the 64-year-old Englishman from traveling to Russia for a Europa League match on Thursday.

Tottenham said Wednesday that after successfully having two stents inserted to unblock coronary arteries, Redknapp ''is in excellent spirits and due to be discharged from hospital in the next 48 hours.''

''We are delighted the operation went so smoothly and successfully,'' chairman Daniel Levy said. ''Knowing Harry, he will want to rush back, but it's important that he only does so when he has recovered properly.''

Redknapp has been in charge of Tottenham for three years.
