Torres: Judge me on current form

Torres: Judge me on current form

Fernando Torres wants to be judged on his current form, rather than drag up a difficult opening to his Chelsea career.

The Spain international broke the British transfer record in January 2011 when he completed a £50million move from Liverpool to Stamford Bridge.

Big things were expected of him in west London, but Torres initially struggled to produce his best in the capital and ended up slipping out of favour for club and country.

He put those troubles behind him last term to net 23 times in all competitions, helping Chelsea to a third-place finish in the Premier League and Europa League glory.

The goals have continued to flow at this summer's Confederations Cup - with five in three games - and Torres hopes he has done enough to shift focus from the past to the present.

He said: "I think that everyone has in their heads my first year at Chelsea, which was not good, more than reality itself.

"I am pleased with my performances, although I demanded an awful lot more from myself. Things are returning to normality for me.

"I feel very well, physically well despite the fact it was a very long season. I am comfortable, strong and fast."
