Toluca all but secured top spot in the Apertura heading with a 2-0 win at San Luis while Monterrey could be similarly confident of a place in the post-season after drawing 1-1 at Cruz Azul.

With three games of the final round of fixtures to play, Toluca's win put them three points clear of Tijuana, the only team who could catch them, while Monterrey, in the eighth and final play-off spot, had the same cushion over Atlante and Unam Pumas, with both teams knowing a big change in goal difference would be needed to shift them.

Carlos Rodriguez (65) and Luis Tejada (73) scored the goals which put Toluca a point clear of Leon at the top.

Monterrey, meanwhile, claimed a point as Aldo De Nigris scored on the stroke of half-time to cancel out Christian Gimenez's 23rd-minute opener for Cruz Azul.

A 1-1 draw between Tigres Monterrey and Club America, Juninho scoring after 40 minutes for the hosts and Paul Aguilar (67 equalising, proved no use to either team.

A win would have put Tigres ahead of local rivals Monterrey and effectively into the play-offs, while America were left third, three points behind Toluca.

Jaguares also threw away the chance to qualify for the play-offs as they lost 2-1 at Pachuca.

Emilio Garcia struck the telling blow three minutes from the end after Luis Lorona (63) had scored for Jaguares to cancel out Segundo Castillo's 44th-minute opener.
