The Sweden striker took PSV out of sight after Balazs Dzsudzsak's fifth-minute penalty had opened the scoring, with Purrel Frankel sent off for the foul tackle which gave away the spot-kick. Toivonen scored after 25, 47 and 55 minutes, while Nordin Amrabat and Ibrahim Afellay added further goals late on as the hosts made it two wins out of two at the start of the Eredivisie season. Last season's champions FC Twente were held to a goalless draw for the second weekend in a row as they continued to make an uncertain start to the defence of their title. Like PSV, Ajax had no problems finding the net as they beat Vitesse Arnhem 4-2. Second-half goals from Siem De Jong and Vurnon Anita saw them ease past Vitesse Arnhem. The visitors took the lead through Davy Propper before Jan Vertonghen and Gregory van der Wiel put the Amsterdam side 2-1 up. Marco van Ginkel levelled for the visitors but De Jong and Anita secured the points for Martin Jol's men. VVV-Venlo claimed their first points of the campaign as Ruud Boymans' header secured a 1-0 victory over Heracles Almelo. Maarten Martens fired a late equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw for AZ Alkmaar against FC Groningen. Tim Sparv opened the scoring for Groningen in the 77th minute but Martens produced a fine response with full-time approaching.
