The Toffees striker netted his first senior goal for two years in Monday's 2-0 Premier League win over Burnley. The 21-year-old came off the bench to strike an 83rd-minute opener and Steven Pienaar grabbed a stoppage-time second as David Moyes' men beat the Clarets, who had Stephen Jordan sent off for two bookable offences. "It was a great feeling, not only because we got three points but the fact that I came on and scored my first goal for a long, long while," said Vaughan, whose last goal came in a UEFA Cup tie against AZ Alkmaar in December 2007. "In all the time that I have been out injured, I never once thought that it wouldn't happen for me in football. "I have had great people around me, family, coaches, giving me confidence that I could get back out onto the pitch to do what I know I am good at." Vaughan has endured a torrid time with two serious knee injuries, a dislocated shoulder and a severed artery in his foot impacting on a career which began with so much promise when he became Everton's youngest player as a 16-year-old in April 2005. It is a record now held by Jose Baxter, but Vaughan remains the youngest goalscorer in club and Premier League history after taking the honours from Wayne Rooney and James Milner, respectively. Almost five years on from his debut, Vaughan has made just 10 starts for the Goodison Park club, but, after netting against Burnley as Everton ended a run of four straight draws with their fifth win of the season, he insisted he never doubted his ability to continue playing at the highest level. "These past few years have been very frustrating," added Vaughan, who picked up a knee problem while on loan with Derby earlier this season. "Injuries happen in football and I tell myself that mine have all happened early in my career and now they are behind me. "Now I believe I can kick on in my career. I know what I can do on the pitch, I will always give 100 per cent and what happens will happen for me." Vaughan is now determined to resume his battle for a first-team spot. "I am just happy to be back, I want to start doing my bit for the team after so many problems," he added. "I was even injured while on loan at Derby this season, and there has been talk that I may go back there on loan again, but that is all up to the gaffer (Moyes). "It is out of my hands, but I will do everything I can to get back into Everton's first team and if that means going out on loan again, I'll be glad to do that."
