Tigre slips up, Banfield beats Olimpo
Tigre missed the chance to go top of the Clausura after slipping to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Argentinos Juniors.
The host was 2-0 down inside 23 minutes thanks to a double from Fabian Bordagaray.
Tigre then had Cristian Lema sent off in the 77th minute and though it did pull one back two minutes later through Carlos Luna, it was not enough to challenge leaders Estudiantes.
Banfield leapt of the foot of the table in some style with a 5-2 win at Olimpo, who replaced the visitor at the bottom.
The host took the lead through Andres Franzoia in the fifth minute, but Adrian Reta leveled eight minutes after the break before pulling ahead with a double from Andres Chavez after the break.
Roberto Brum made it 4-1 in the 74th minute and, though Martin Guedes pulled one back three minutes later, Jonathan Gomez rounded off the scoring eight minutes from time.
Struggling Independiente got a welcome victory by beating Atletico Rafaela 2-0 with goals from Facundo Parra in the 57th minute and Fabian Monserrat 10 minutes from time.
In the day's other game, Union Santa Fe opened the scoring through Jorge Velazquez in the 36th minute, but Ruben Ramirez leveled three minutes before the break to secure a 1-1 draw for Godoy Cruz.
Union held on for a point despite having Fausto Montero sent off in the 59th minute.
