Tiago scores winner for Atletico
Tiago's stunning 84th-minute winner gave defending champion Atletico Madrid a 2-1 win over Rosenborg in the Europa League on Thursday.
The midfielder picked up the ball on the halfway line, shrugged off a challenge and beat two more Rosenborg players before hammering the ball past goalkeeper Daniel Orlund from 25 yards (meters) out.
Sergio Aguero continued his run of goal-scoring form, opening for Atletico in the fourth minute with a simple tap-in after Simao beat a defender and crossed in from the left.
Rosenborg's Markus Henriksen equalized in the 52nd, taking a pass from Steffen Iversen and firing in a shot through Atletico goalkeeper David De Gea's legs.
Atletico has seven points, one behind Bayer Leverkusen. Aris has four points and Rosenborg three from four matches in Group B.
Atletico won 3-0 when the teams played in Madrid two weeks ago, and it started confidently again this time.
Aguero started up front alongside Diego Costa. Key forward Diego Forlan, who sprained his ankle in training on Tuesday, was a substitute. Jose Antonio Reyes wasn't in the squad after picking up a leg muscle injury in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Almeria in the Spanish league.
After its early goal, Atletico missed some chances to extend its lead in the first half. Tiago blazed over when well placed in the box, and Costa broke through but his shot hit a defender on the line.
Rosenborg pressed towards the end of the first period but wasn't able to fashion any clear-cut chances.
The Norwegian league champions started the second half at a frantic pace, pinning Atletico back in its own half and forcing De Gea to making several saves. Iversen also scuffed a shot wide from six yards when the goal was at his mercy in the 64th.
Forlan replaced Aguero with half an hour left to play, but it was Costa who came closest to scoring, when he curled a shot just past the post, before Tiago came up with the winner.
