Terry unfazed by Wembley woes

Skipper John Terry insists England have no hang-up about playing at Wembley ahead of today's Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales.

Fabio Capello's side have a 100% record in away qualifiers courtesy of wins over Switzerland, Wales and Bulgaria.

But by contrast, they have gone 12 months and four games without a win in front of their own fans, though Terry believes it is no cause for major worry.

"It is not becoming a concern," he said. "People can look too much into that. I don't think there is any real logic to that at all.

"At Chelsea I've gone years without losing at home and then all of a sudden that changes.

"You suddenly can't buy a win at home. This is football really. But, as players, it would be nice to get that win and get that talk finished with.

"We believe if we put in as good a performance as the other night in Bulgaria, then we should be okay.

"Three points is key but we are in a good position. Our destiny is in our hands once again. If we win, it will be nice to sit top of the group for a while."

Terry believes Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard still has a major role to play for England despite being axed from the starting line-up for the 3-0 win in Sofia.

He said: "Frank will bounce back. You don't get that many caps and goals for your country without being a major player.

"I think it's a bit of a lack of respect towards Frank, as well, [writing him off] given what he's given to the country.

"I'm privileged to train with him nearly every day, and he's one of the best midfielders England have ever seen. Certainly don't write him off."

Terry is expecting a tougher game than was the case when England won the reverse fixture against the Welsh 2-0 in Cardiff in March, and is calling for patience if they fail to make an early breakthrough.

He said: "Wales are a really good side going forward and defensively solid as well. I expect a really tough game. I hope no one expects an easy game, from the fans' or players' point of view.

"If we can follow on from where we left off the other night, that will be the perfect start.

"But we've seen at times things don't go as you have worked all week. If it doesn't happen, we've got to remain patient and that goes for the players and the fans as well, to stay with us to the end."
