Szczesny wants to feel the noise

The Gunners travel to Yorkshire for an FA Cup third-round replay this week, having been held to a surprise 1-1 draw by their npower Championship opponents earlier this month. That was the first meeting for almost seven years between sides who historically have been fierce rivals, so Arsenal can expect anything but a warm welcome tomorrow. Goalkeeper Szczesny played at Elland Road while on loan at Brentford last season and is relishing his second trip to the famous old stadium. "I played at Elland Road with Brentford and we got a draw, and I am hoping for a better result," he said. "It is quite a loud ground, but I enjoy the atmosphere, it gives you a bit more motivation, keeps you focused. "When you play games with no crowd, you can sometimes lose your concentration, so I enjoy the games at big stadiums with big crowds." That made Manchester United the ideal place for Szczesny to be handed his Barclays Premier League debut a month ago. "It was not really hard, I treat every game the same," the 20-year-old said of his baptism of fire. "It does not matter whether it is at Old Trafford or on loan at Brentford with only 2,000 people there." In truth, Szczesny only started against United due to injuries to Lukasz Fabianski and Manuel Almunia, with the former immediately recalled for the next game. However, the Pole has played in all but one of Arsenal's domestic cup ties this season and was back in goal against Leeds and for the Carling Cup semi-final first leg defeat at Ipswich. Another injury to Fabianski meant he kept his place for Saturday's 3-0 Premier League win at West Ham, and he looks set to do so for at least the next three matches as his compatriot continues to struggle with a shoulder problem. "I treat every single game as my chance," Szczesny said. "I just want to do my best and leave the decisions to the manager. The manager shows faith in me, so I believe I am ready. "Any time I get a chance, I will try to prove to him I am ready." A clean sheet will do Szczesny's cause no harm and it will also help the Gunners defence, which has now kept three in a row in the league having only managed four in their opening 19 games. "We have kept three clean sheets on the bounce in the Premier League now, which is pleasing because people have questioned our defending," Szczesny said. "It has the look of a decent back four and we just want to keep it going with as many clean sheets as possible." Yet that will become more difficult if Arsenal continue to embroil themselves in FA Cup replays. "Obviously, there will be some tired legs sooner or later, but let's just hope we keep on getting the results," said Szczesny, who insists the cup is not an unwanted distraction. "We want to win every competition, whether it is the Champions League, Carling Cup or Premier League. "We just want to play our best in every single game and hopefully we will win some trophies." Should Arsenal do so, Szczesny no doubt will be straight on Twitter to share his joy with his 43,000-plus followers, as well as his Gunners team-mates, who are equally obsessed with the social network website. "We are all friends, we are not just team-mates at the same club," Szczesny said. "That helps a bit because you can trust your friends on the pitch and it seems to be working at the moment."
