Sturrock encouraged by draw

Southend boss Paul Sturrock was encouraged by his side's second half display after they drew with York at Roots Hall.

Having survived scares in the first half Southend responded and could have won it in the closing stages.

First, Chris Barker headed over from six yards after Kevan Hurst's free kick had been flicked on by Britt Assombalonga before Hurst missed a great chance from close range.

"I thought we were much better after the break and we looked like the only side that were going to win it at the end there," said Sturrock.

"To start off with I think there was a hangover from the disappointing defeat to Aldershot on Tuesday but I was pleased by how we responded in the second half.

"Bringing Barry Corr on made a difference and I thought he caused them problems. But we just can't get a settled side together and that's causing us problems."
