Following a year of intensive chemotherapy after being diagnosed with acute leukemia, Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov is looking forward to having a ''normal life'' as he embarks on a gentler regime of treatment.
The Bulgaria midfielder says he is lucky to be alive after contracting the disease last year, having initially thought ''it was just a cold, nothing serious but just something normal.''
In an interview with Villa's website, Petrov, who has been in remission since August, says he's on a two-year course of tablets and can now ''start doing things that I couldn't do in the last year'' like ''take the kids to school.''
Villa fans continue to applaud Petrov in the 19th minute of every game, marking the number on his jersey.
