Spurs have enjoyed an impressive season under Redknapp, climbing to a current fifth in the table as well as progressing to the last 16 of the Champions League on their maiden campaign, and staking a strong claim for a spot in the quarter-finals with a first-leg triumph at AC Milan. But Redknapp insists the club's restrictive wage policy means Tottenham are unable to bring the highest-quality players to White Hart Lane, which puts them at a disadvantage to Premier League giants Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea. Redknapp said: "You need top players if you are going to compete with your top-four rivals. "But the wage rise makes it hard for us to compete with the top teams because we have a stadium that only holds 36,000, so we can't be paying the wages that Manchester City or Chelsea pay. "If the top players get offered a £150,000 a week at Manchester City they are not going to come to Tottenham for £60,000 a week, are they? Their wage bills are far in excess of ours. You only have to look at Man City's squad and it's absolutely frightening. "We were looking at an extra striker in the January transfer window like Andy Carroll or Sergio Aguero, but it's impossible. We could never have afforded them." Redknapp feels moving to a new stadium is imperative if Spurs want to keep competing alongside the Premier League's elite. "We need a stadium that will hold 60,000 people so we can compete and you can't expect the owners to keep funding everything," he said. "If you want the top players you need to pay top money and you need a stadium that will hold the crowds - and you will get crowds at Tottenham. "We would sell out every week; 60,000 would be no problem for us, we have 26,000 on the waiting list for season tickets." The Spurs boss believes making some additions to his squad over the summer will boost his side's ultimate aim of bringing league success to the Lane. He added: "I think we need to keep improving the strength of our team in a few positions over the summer if we are going to push on. "Of course we want to win the league, that's the ambition. We're not far away. "If we hadn't thrown away some silly points we'd be on the coat tails of Man United right now."
