Barcelona striker David Villa says his recovery from leg surgery is on schedule, meaning he may return to help Spain defend its European Championship title later this year.
Villa is not expected to return before next month after fracturing his left shin in December. Spain's defense begins June 10 against Italy.
The 30-year-old Villa says his injury ''is better every day, we're meeting all the deadlines in the recovery process.''
Villa could still help Barcelona's chase for a fourth straight league title. He is Spain's all-time leading scorer, but national team coach Vicente del Bosque hasn't said which strikers he will pick with Fernando Torres displaying inconsistent form this season.
