Sochaux has accepted coach Eric Hely's resignation the day after a 5-1 loss to Guingamp left it rooted to the bottom of the French league.

After seven games, Sochaux has mustered only two points and has the worst defense in the league. Shortly after the Guingamp loss, Hely offered his resignation.

Sochaux said in a statement Thursday that ''given the latest results, the president Laurent Pernet has accepted his resignation'' adding that a new coaching setup will be announced soon.

Pernet added that Hely, who kept Sochaux up last season, will remain with the club in a different role and praised ''his professionalism and commitment.''
