Smith sends Robins crashing out
Blue Square Bet Premier side Crawley took a deserved lead in the 15th minute when the impressive Smith ghosted into the penalty box and swept a beautiful volley past Phil Smith in the Swindon goal. Swindon responded immediately when Michael Rose fired in a low cross between goalkeeper and the defence and Jon-Paul McGovern headed home at the far post. There was drama in the last five minutes of the first half as Charlie Austin gave Swindon the lead after lifting the ball over keeper Michael Kuipers before Robins skipper Jonathan Douglas was given a straight red for a lunging challenge on Crawley's Glenn Wilson. The numerical advantage told in the second half and a Phil Smith own goal got Crawley level after 68 minutes and it finished level after 90 minutes. Despite their dominance in extra time, Crawley could not find the breakthrough until Smith popped up with a cool finish from 10 yards out on 118 minutes to send the Red Devils into the third round with a home tie against Derby.
