Slovenia splits with national soccer coach
Slovenia is looking for a new national soccer coach after failing to qualify for the 2012 European Championship.
The contract of coach Matjaz Kek was terminated by ''mutual agreement,'' the country's soccer federation said Monday.
Kek became the national coach in 2007 and took Slovenia to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But the nation trailed Italy, Estonia and Serbia in its qualifying group for Euro 2012.
The Slovenian federation said ''without a doubt Matjaz Kek has been a good general manager and achieved excellent results with the national team.''
Slovenia next plays Nov. 15, facing the U.S. in an exhibition game in Ljubljana that is a rematch of their meeting in the first round of last year's World Cup. The U.S. rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 2-2 tie in Johannesburg behind goals from Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley.
Next month's game will be part of a two-match European trip for the U.S. that starts Nov. 11 against France.
