Sion claims another court victory

Sion have claimed another court success against UEFA in their ongoing battle to be reinstated in the Europa League.

But the court is the same one which UEFA ignored on Tuesday when the governing body refused to overturn their expulsion for fielding ineligible players.

UEFA's emergency panel on Tuesday dismissed a ruling from the district court in Vaud, where their headquarters are based, that Sion should be allowed back in the competition.

UEFA argued that they had not been asked to present their case and that the court had made false assumptions over the timing of the appeal.

But Sion have sought another ruling to wipe out the opening results of Thursday night's Group I games, which included a 2-0 defeat for Celtic at Atletico Madrid.

A statement from Sion read: "After the refusal of UEFA to submit to the Swiss civil court injunction, which ordered on September 13 the immediate rehabilitation of FC Sion in Group I of the Europa League, the civil court of the Canton of Vaud today ruled that no result and placing in Group I of the Europa League could, for the time being, be validated."

A UEFA spokeswoman responded: "We are aware of this development and we are considering it but we have no comment to make."

The spokeswoman added that no panel had been convened on Friday to discuss the latest court hearing.
