In the first round for only the second time in their history, the Ryman Premier League side dominated the first half but fell behind just before half-time to Carl Tremarco's strike. And the Silkmen sealed the win when Matt Hamshaw and George Donnelly both pounced on rebounds in the second half. After monopolising the opening stages of the first half, East Thurrock came close when Reiss Gilbey lobbed Jose Veiga but hit the crossbar. The visiting keeper was then called into action to deny Sam Higgins who was sent clean through by Ben Wood's ball over the top. But two minutes before the break Tremarco broke the deadlock as he lashed in Colin Daniel's pass. They doubled their lead after 61 minutes when Ross Draper's shot from Daniel's pull-back was deflected onto the crossbar only for Hamshaw to head in the rebound. After Sam Collins spurned a golden opportunity to pull a goal back for the hosts, Macc got their third as Donnelly's initial effort was blocked only for the striker to lash in the loose ball from the edge of the area.
