Siena gave their Serie A survival hopes a huge boost with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over fellow strugglers Cagliari.

Erjon Bogdani scored the opener four minutes before half-time and late goals from Emanuele Calaio and Cristiano Del Grosso earned the Bianconeri back-to-back wins for the first time this season after last weekend's 4-1 victory over Palermo.

It was Cagliari, now only two points above their opponents, who made the better start and Lorenzo Ariaudo's header was saved by Gianluca Pegolo in the ninth minute.

Thiago Ribeiro then tested the Siena keeper with another header before Daniele Conti placed his header wide from Andrea Cossu's corner.

The hosts did not threaten until the half-hour mark, when Bogdani's long-range effort flew just past the post while Alessandro Gazzi also fired off-target.

Siena were in the ascendancy now and Luigi Giorgi forced a good save from Michael Agazzi before they did take the lead in the 41st minute through Bogdani's fine turn and shot.

Agazzi was called into action again eight minutes after the break, diving to his left to keep out Mattia Destro's shot, before Radja Nainggolan shot wide in a rare chance for the visitors.

In the 71st minute Calaio fired well over but he proved much more accurate nine minutes later, finishing off a fine counter-attack with a precise shot from outside the box.

And two minutes later Del Grosso made sure of the points with another terrific strike into the top corner.
