Shrimps denied by Dunbavin

Morecambe had to settle for a point with Accrington after goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin saved Richard Brodie's late spot-kick.

That penalty save capped a superb night for the Stanley keeper who almost single handedly kept Morecambe at bay.

Dunbavin made three world class saves during normal time to frustrate a Morecambe side who have still to beat Stanley in 11 Football League meetings.

He flew to his right hand side on 26 minutes to tip away a stinging Jack Redshaw drive and followed that up by pushing away a Lewis Alessandra curler on the half hour.

Alessandra went close early in the second half with a curler that hit the underside of the bar but then wasted a golden chance to give Morecambe the lad on 58 minutes but produced the miss of the season when he missed an open goal from one yard out.

The Shrimps were given a late chance to take the points when Dean Winnard fouled Kevin Ellison in the area but Brodie's effort was superbly tipped away by that man Dunbavin.
